Join the season

Bring MARLIN to your school.

New schools can join Link Lockdown at any point in the season. Here is what your students do, and how we shape a programme around your school.

What your students do

Build it, code it, race it, then explain it.

  1. 01

    Build and wire a boat

From an unopened Starter Kit, on our base parts, with mechanisms of their own design.

  2. 02

Code it to drive, and to run itself

Python with the MARLIN API: a driver-controlled mode and a 20-second autonomous routine.

  3. 03

    Play live matches

At least six qualification matches per event, head-to-head against teams from other schools.

  4. 04

    Show their thinking

At Trident-X 2026, teams presented what they tried and learned. Future events will ask for a presentation or an engineering notebook.

Worth their time

About 8 hours to their first match.

Our standard introductory course takes about 8 hours. In the first afternoon, teams build their boat and run it on example code. The rest covers basic CAD and gives each team a starting design for the season. After that, how much time you give MARLIN is up to your school, and our trainers act as advanced mentors.

3–6students per team is our suggestion. Teams can be larger or smaller.
2divisions at every event: Division A for pre-tertiary students (JC, Poly, ITE), and Division B for Secondary School students.
2 hor less to build a complete robot boat from the Starter Kit.

What it costs, the space it needs, and how students stay safe around the water.

Space

3 × 2 m

Pool. We recommend 1 m clear around the perimeter.

  • A school hall or a ground-floor court works well.
  • Assembled in about an hour with four people and two spanners.
  • Holds about 3,000 L. Fills from a garden hose in about two hours. No fixed plumbing.
Pool safety and logistics

Safety

500 mm

of water. Students work from the edge and never get in.

  • The Robot Brain is sealed. Student code runs on the laptop.
  • Our safety guide covers batteries, chargers and supervision for the teachers who run your sessions.
Full safety guide

The Starter Kit has everything one team needs to build its first Robot, apart from a laptop and the Pool.

Keeping students safe

Most MARLIN students are under 18. At MARLIN workshops and events:

  • A teacher or a staff member supervises.
  • No trainer or sponsor is alone with a student or messages one privately.
  • Sponsors are welcome to give talks and run booths. Any follow-up, such as internships, goes through the school.
  • Photos and personal data are handled under the event consent form and the PDPA.

Shape it to your school

Get your teams ready to compete.

Every school's calendar is different, so we plan the path to your teams' first match with you, from the same pieces, and quote it for your school.

  • Workshop with our trainers
  • Practice in your own pool
  • In-school matches
  • MARLIN events

PolyMate is GeBIZ-registered, so your school can buy the programme the way it already buys.

Schools often ask us about

  • Intensive one-day STEM workshops

A build-and-drive day for a large group, ending in matches.

  • Term long enrichment programmes

Weekly sessions that build up to an in-school match.

  • Season-long CCA Participation

Train through the year and compete at MARLIN events.

To quote, we'll ask about

  • Your slot: dates, number of weeks and session length
  • Cohort size and number of teams
  • Your space, and where the pool would go
  • Which event you'd like your teams ready for

What you can plan on

This season

Link Lockdown's next event is in 2027, and the next season starts in August 2027.

Your pool carries over

The MARLIN Pool carries over from season to season.

In development1

Cameras, and more sensors and effectors, so teams can take autonomy further.

1. In development means we are building it now. We'll share dates when they're firm.
